Of Course You Can Use Times New Roman for Your Resume

Of Course You Can Use Times New Roman for Your Resume Of Course You Can Use Times New Roman for Your Resume Not long ago, Bloomberg Business distributed an article on picking the correct typeface for your resume. It ran with the subhead, Utilizing Times New Roman is what could be compared to wearing running pants to a meeting. Bzzzt. Wrong. Attempt once more. Times New Roman isn't warm up pants at a prospective employee meeting off by a long shot. Running pants at a prospective employee meeting are unseemly, messy, and strange. Never under any circumstance called for. Luckily, the specialists counseled for the piece werent very as sensational as the subhead inferred. Brian Hoff, imaginative executive of Brian Hoff Design, was cited as saying that picking Times New Roman for your resume is like getting into running pants. Presently, Times New Roman can be precisely contrasted with numerous things. Be that as it may, not to warm up pants. (Not even to the very good quality athleisure kind.) What Times New Roman is: totally useful, however not conspicuous. Times New Roman is a Honda Civic. A glass of chardonnay. A center help pitcher. Beige. As such: entirely functional and subtle. Nonexclusive, typical, recognizable, regular indeed, any of these could portray Times New Roman. With regards to continue textual styles, however, that is not really a disadvantage. Indeed, Times New Romans pervasiveness implies that itll be perceived by each candidate following framework (ATS) out there. A similar cannot be said for the nonstandard typefaces suggested in the Bloomberg piece. What's more, should you be among the minority whose resume moves beyond an ATS and checked on by a genuine human, Times New Romans omnipresence implies it wont occupy that individual from the real substance of your resume. Clearly, this is something to be thankful for. Times New Roman will take care of business without getting everyone's attention. Its neatness and commonality make it simple to take in initially. Furthermore, extremely, a look is all you have: An eye-following investigation of enrollment specialists indicated that a resume gets took a gander at for a normal of just 6 seconds before a choice is made. By and large, if something is normal, it's basic for an explanation: It works. Times New Roman might be a regular decision for a resume typeface, however that doesnt make it a terrible one. While picking a typeface for your resume, good judgment not misleading content ought to win.

How Much Is Your Independence Worth

The amount Is Your Independence Worth Knowing the past is 20/20 and shoulda, coulda, wouldas arent fun, yet I dont accept individuals who state they have no second thoughts. I accept it just implies that they didnt acknowledge theyve committed errors. Ive made a ton and I positively have a couple of disappointments. In the event that I could return and change one, Id have remained at home in the wake of graduating school. Rather, I moved out to guarantee my autonomy, do what I needed to do when I needed to do it, which wound up costing me sincerely. What I didnt consider was that alongside autonomy came costs. Subsequent to paying rent, utilities, gas, food and obviously, my public activity, my small salary didnt take into consideration much else. Setting aside cash wasnt even on my radar. I practically lived check to check while gradually piling on Visa unpaid liability. Visa obligation that rose to $34,000! My budgetary life would have been altogether different had I recently inhabited home an additional two years. I would have had the option to set aside cash and when I was prepared to move out, I would have had strong investment funds to guarantee I didnt live check to check also that I wouldnt have needed to move into a dump, which was everything I could bear the cost of right out of school. My autonomy wasnt justified, despite all the trouble In the event that I could step into a period case, I would have remained at home for a year or two and done the accompanying: 1) Create a spending plan What number of new graduates really have spending plans? At that age, none of my companions had one. Because you live at home doesnt mean you dont have costs. Where there are costs, there ought to be a budget. Even if youre not paying rent, your phone bill, shopping and public activity are STILL costs you ought to follow. 2) Save for retirement ASAP Retirement appears to be a 100 years away at that age, yet in all actuality retirement comes quicker than you might suspect. Its simpler to begin sparing even a modest quantity for retirement. A minuscule speculation presently, will take you far later on. Regardless of whether you spare as meager at $100 per month, that is $6,000 in 5 years nothing to giggle at. 3) Use your negligible obligation to get more extravagant Most school graduates dont have life partners and children to stress over. Joined with having vitality implies that you can get considerably more cash-flow than you might suspect. Dont simply adhere to the 9 to 5, independent or make a side gig that will let you have various surges of salary. Utilize your childhood to bring in cash with the goal that you have a superior life later on. Trust me, your vitality WILL NOT be equivalent to you get more established even in your 30s. 4) Do yourself some help, use Visas astutely Charge cards were my shortcoming and the explanation behind my abominable obligation. I fired piling on unpaid liability and just paying the base. Loathsome propensity! Its essential to manufacture credit, so get a Visa, yet ensure you have a zero parity consistently. On the off chance that you dont have the cash to get it, dont expect the cash will mystically seem half a month not far off it likely wont and however the madly high premium will! 5) Think buys through This is the period of flighty buys. You have a fair activity now, so you think you have the right to compensate yourself with that $300 purse and those marvelous shoes were marked down for just $150. Before you know it you have a storeroom so full you can scarcely open it without getting wacked by that other satchel you completely overlooked you had. In the event that you dont need it, dont get it. Youll need those investment funds more than all else. What else would you be able to add to the rundown? What do you lament?

Yet, an ongoing report distributed in the Journal of Business and Psychology found that these letters are not generally positive and can really keep candidates down in the event that they are women. When specialists from Rice University, Hunter College and CUNY Graduate Center, and the University of Houston investigated 624 genuine letters of suggestions for 174 people going after eight partner educator jobs, they found that letters composed for ladies were bound to have question raisers that scrutinized a candidate's inclination for the job.How question raisers raise warnings on female employment applicantsThe question raisers came in numerous shades. The most clear was cynicism, or an unmistakable shortcoming of the candidate, that the recommender straightforwardly called attention to in warnings like: doesn't have a lot of showing experience or a gl ance at [applicant's] distribution record will show that she has not distributed an immense amount. Then came the more tricky types of uncertainty like supporting where the creator conceded vulnerability about an up-and-comer, or the underhanded commendations of black out acclaim. As one lukewarm commendation for a female candidate expressed: She is probably not going to turn into a hotshot, yet she is exceptionally solid.Regardless of who ladies picked to be their elite player reference, their letters were bound to put them off guard due to these uncertainty raisers. Both male and female recommenders were utilizing greater pessimism, supporting, and black out applause in letters of suggestions for ladies contrasted with the letters composed for men.We can get on this uncertainty and react to it. When the scientists got around 300 college teachers to rate letters of proposal, they found that cynicism and supporting made educators rate a candidate more cruelly on their exploration apt itudes than in any case indistinguishable applicants. It's a token of how predisposition can crawl into language with even good natured endeavors can in any case cause enduring mischief to professions. Additionally, suggestions are made constantly, regardless of whether they're not in letter structure. Resume Writing Tips to Start the New Year Successfully

Resume Writing Tips to Start the New Year Successfully Resume Writing Tips to Start the New Year Successfully Resumes Resume Writing Tips to Start the New Year Successfully Dec 21 2015 Courtesy of Wil Stewart from unsplash.com New Year’s just around the corner and this is usually the time when we bring a bunch of New Year’s resolutions. We decide to ditch unhealthy foods, go to gym, do things we haven’t done in past year, and we also decide this is the year when we’re finally going to make a step forward in our career. Obviously, ditching unhealthy foods and going to the gym don’t stand a chance. Somehow, we can’t say goodbye to delicious pizza and who’s got enough time for gym anyway? In the end, we only have one resolution left and that’s career progress. In all honesty, that’s even more achievable than going to the gym on daily basis. Quality resume stands between you and desired job To finally do something about your career and find a better (or any) job, it’s important to have a high-quality resume. I like to compare it to password-protected door. Poor resume results with Access Denied message on the tiny screen, while good resume opens the door and leads you to your next destination â€" your job. with advantage over other people who are going to apply for the same job as you will, I listed all important things you should consider when writing your resume. Before you even start resume writing process, take a few moments to think about the fact that most people use the same strategy as you do. This also includes using a wide range of templates you can find online. The best way to get hired is to have a resume that stands out. This isn’t too complicated to accomplish. For example, you can start just by mentioning the basic info and other skills on a blank piece of paper and later make some adjustments to make it look professional. Additionally, you can always hire someone to write your resume for you (there’s nothing wrong with that). That way, your resume will look perfect, highly professional and will stand out among all others. I always struggled whenever I had to write my resume. It’s because I thought I have to mention as much info as possible in order to impress the recruiter etc. However, that’s not always such a great idea, particularly if we take into account that average recruiter spends between 5 and 7 seconds looking at one resume. It’s important to focus on emphasizing all strengths and skills you have to do a certain job successfully. Your resume should contain info about education, experience, or even some awards you have received that you think recruiter would find interesting. DO tailor your resume according to the job you’re applying to. You have more chances to get hired if your resume matches all requirements listed by the recruiter. DON’T use a same resume for every job. Generic resumes aren’t that beneficial. Yes, you don’t spend hours on creating a perfect resume, but it’s highly unlikely it will match all requirements needed for certain job. DO only info that is relevant for specific job making sure the most important skills or achievements are listed on the top. DON’T overdo it. Sometimes, less is more. DO list accomplishments, achievements or even experiences within a certain job role you’ve done before. This way, the recruiter will recognize your capabilities. DON’T mention your job title only and leave it at that. They are more interested in things you’ve done within the job role e.g. came up with certain plan and program that improved students’ grades in school etc. DO specify your achievements. For example, increased sales or website traffic by 30% in 2 months. DON’T be vague and say “Increased sales” only. That doesn’t offer enough info. DO use a subtle, minimalist format that is easy to read. DON’T use flowery designs, over-the-top formats and templates that are confusing. DO read entire resume once again; look for grammar or spelling mistakes. DON’T submit your resume without proofreading it first. DO polish your LinkedIn profile and other social media profiles. DON’T publish inappropriate content on your social media profiles. Recruiters pay attention to how your act on social media as well. With the rise of internet, social media became a powerful tool that is of high importance for your career. Stats: resumes + social media and their role in recruitment 76% of resumes are rejected due to unprofessional email address. 88% of resumes are rejected due to photo. Back in 2000, 22% of resumes were submitted via email or posted on some website. In 2014, more than 90% of resumes are sent by email or posted on websites. Applicant Tracking Softwares are able to eliminate about 75% of applicants. 427,000 resumes are posted on Monster.com each week. 89% of recruiters have hired someone via LinkedIn. 68%of employers will find you on Facebook. 93% of employers look at candidates’ social media accounts before they decide whether to hire someone. Working on your resume to have higher chances of getting hired is the ideal way of starting a New Year successfully. You should always bear in mind that sometimes more in less and instead of “bombarding” and trying to fit everything into resume thus making it difficult to read you should opt for mentioning skills and qualities that are relevant for a specific job.

Be that as it may, as you most likely are aware, this essentially isn't correct. Accordingly, some first-time staffing up-and-comers end up confounded and muddled. They are bound to perform ineffectively during the staffing procedure or drop out inside and out. Some may even never be happy to enter the staffing procedure again. This leaves you continually combatting shallower ability pools and longer situation times. On the off chance that you need to make sure about your future achievement finding new, quality ability, you have to help novices through the staffing procedure now. The initial step is distinguishing separates between new up-and-comers' comprehension of the staffing procedure and reality. Here are four hang-ups first-time staffing up-and-comers frequently experience: 1. Not understanding the staffing procedure steps In the run of the mill recruiting process, applicants just need to demonstrate theyre the correct decision to their potential manager. The extra screenings during the staffing procedure overpower candidates that arent acquainted with outside ability sourcing experts. Numerous competitors don't comprehend why you're the guardian or what your part is in an official conclusion. Also, when the initial step of the staffing procedure is new, applicants stress over what different amazements may emerge. On the off chance that they are completely arranged from the earliest starting point they know all the means and who will be included it's considerably less scary. When you connect, give first-time staffing competitors a nitty gritty course of events. Blueprint what the applicant should do and potential ways you'll have the option to help them. Additionally, let them realize how much time will pass among steps and how frequently you'll be in contact. This will provide up-and-comers a feeling of guidance and set them up to prevail all through the whole staffing process. The #staffing procedure can be scary to a first-time competitor. Ensure they see all the means. Snap To Tweet 2. Not placing their total trust in you During the staffing procedure, the vast majority of the data about the organization and the activity originates from you. Competitors who are uncomfortable with the staffing procedure will in general be apprehensive the data you give about the organization isn't as exact as though their inquiries were replied by the business. Its fundamental you work to win the trust of your applicants. Giving them an unmistakable timetable is an extraordinary initial step, yet there's more you can do. A few hints that help gain applicants' certainty include: Giving them tributes from past, effectively positioned up-and-comers (with their authorization obviously). Speaking the truth about potential drawbacks of the position or association while indicating how their extraordinary abilities or attributes help to conquer those difficulties. Transparently conceding when you don't have an answer and guaranteeing them you are going direct to the source to guarantee they get the most exact data. 3. Not realizing how to react to criticism It's uncommon for work searchers to get criticism from recruiting supervisors or bosses during the customary employing process. They're here and there fortunate to get an email telling them they didn't land the position. In any case, during the staffing procedure, you must mentor contender to successfully flaunt their best proficient characteristics. At the point when a first-opportunity staffing applicant comes into your office to record their single direction video talk with, they are not liable to be set up to get prompt input not to mention a chance to re-record. Before recording single direction video interviews, clarify how you'll be giving them criticism. Tell them what you'll be searching for during the staffing procedure and how it's applicable to the position. Make it a stride further by giving input toward the finish of an applicant's staffing experience also. Regardless of whether they aren't introduced to a customer or dont land the position offer, have a conversation about what worked out in a good way and what can be enhanced. While this progression assists up-and-comers with situating themselves better during future staffing forms, it additionally causes them see you care about their general turn of events. Give up-and-comers input during the #staffing procedure so they can leave better expertly. Snap To Tweet 4. Not feeling like they can say no Because you think a competitor is directly for a job, that doesn't mean they concur. During the staffing procedure, or significantly subsequent to getting an offer, first-time applicants could feel like they need to push ahead. By the competitor's rationale, you found the correct up-and-comer. You invested energy responding to their inquiries. You put resources into their prosperity. Consequently, they need to take the activity. Obviously, you realize this isn't accurate, yet it's basic you ensure your up-and-comers never feel constrained. Check in with them all through the staffing procedure, however particularly after they're extended to an employment opportunity. Ask your applicants the accompanying inquiries to get a thought regarding their actual sentiments about the offer: Would you be able to see yourself carrying out this responsibility consistently? What do you like about the activity? What don't you like about organization? It is safe to say that you are stressed over your capacity to prevail in the job? Is the pay and advantages bundle what you anticipated? Console competitors they can say 'no.' After all, in the event that they take the position and quit immediately, you'll have a miserable customer and a gifted up-and-comer who never needs to experience the staffing procedure again. ___

The Benefits of a Summer Job Search

The Benefits of a Summer Job Search Many job seekers have the misconception that searching for a job in the summer months is a waste of time. There is false belief that everyone is on vacation and therefore nobody is recruiting; yet this is far from the truth and ‘retreating’ job seekers are missing out! Although companies maynot be in heavy recruitment mode during the peak of summer, many organizations are still looking to fill open roles.    There is turnover and job development every month of year â€" including July and August! As a job seeker you should take advantage of this quieter time and keep your job search fully activated. Three benefits of a summer job search include: 1. Less Competition. Competition for roles may be down as many people have other priorities during the summer or take a vacation from their job search. This could give you the advantage you need to snag the perfect role or stand out amongst a smaller application pool.  2. Companies Plan Ahead. If a company has anticipated major resource requirements in the upcoming Fall they will look to fill the roles immediately, despite the season. Many companies will want key roles filled well before work activities spike in September so be ready to pounce! 3. Summer is a Social Season. This is a great time of year to network! Here in Calgary there are tonnes of events during the Calgary Stampede, and I am sure your personal summer activities include picnics, Bar-B-Qs, weddings, or other social events that you plan to enjoy. Attend every event with the goal to network, secure new contacts, and spread the word about your job requirements. Finally, if you are applying to jobs without luck, or not seeing as much action in your targeted industry, use your summer wisely to better position yourself for targeted roles and fully prepare for the upcoming peak in Fall recruitment (which catches many job seekers by surprise). Your summer job search checklist: Get your resume ready and eliminate the stress of updating it on the fly when the right role opens up. Polish up your LinkedIn profile and become familiar with LinkedIn’s new site features. Make a list of targeted organizations to research and reach out to. Compile a list of people in your network that you can start connecting with when time allows. Brush up on your interview skills. Compile the best resources for locating jobs.

What to Do When Youre Not a Good Culture Fit - The Muse

What to Do When Youre Not a Good Culture Fit - The Muse What to Do When Youre Not a Good Culture Fit You've been at your new position now for half a month or possibly a couple of months. You feel increasingly settled with your job and obligations, you've realized who does what over the association, and you can even discover your way to the washroom without anyone else. There's only one thing you're battling with, and it's a major one: Now that you're quite it all day every day, you aren't sure that you work well with this present organization's way of life. Possibly you want to altogether consider things before shouting out, while your group flourishes with a quick pace and spur of the moment reactions. Or on the other hand, maybe you like an environment that is exuberant and shared, however your associates are consistently heads-down in their work with their earbuds in. Presently what? Would it be a good idea for you to state or accomplish something? Or on the other hand, would it be a good idea for you to simply keep quiet and manage that disquiet until you hit the one-year point and can run for the exit? There's no uncertainty about it-feeling like you are certifiably not a decent match with your manager's way of life is tension actuating. Be that as it may, here's the uplifting news: I associated with certain specialists to discover precisely what you can do after this alarming light second. 1. Distinguish the Problem Organization culture can be hard to fold your head over. While your brain may promptly bounce to advantages like kegerators and housetop festivities, you know at this point culture is much more than that. It's the impalpable things-like standards, qualities, and convictions that make up the embodiment of an organization's way of life. For instance, an association with an intricate chain of importance versus one with a level structure, or an organization that organizes constant criticism versus only one unbending execution audit. Let's be honest it's really difficult to get a sense for these things until you really make a plunge heedlessly and turn into a piece of an association. In any case, before you begin breathing intensely into a paper pack, your best first move is to make a stride back and make sense of precisely what's causing you to feel uncertain of your new business. Ask yourself how the way of life contrasts from what you were expecting, says Julie Li, Senior Director of People Operations at Namely. Making this stride will assist you with deciding why you're burdened with this anxiety. Possibly you'll understand that you simply haven't got an opportunity to associate with your colleagues the manner in which you need to yet or that the way of life is not the same as what you're utilized to-however not really awful. Are you awkward on the grounds that you can't help contradicting the way of life or in light of the fact that it's difficult? asks Laura Hamill, Chief People Officer and Chief Science Officer at Limeade. The last could really make for an unfathomable development opportunity-yet it requires you to be open and versatile. This self-reflection may likewise assist you with affirming that the previous you truly don't work well with this current organization's methodology and qualities. For instance, it's a serious domain and you flourish in an increasingly strong and community oriented air. Make sense of where precisely your concern is. Is it true that you are new? It is safe to say that you are ill-equipped? Or then again is it genuinely not a fit? 2. Take care of business When you have an underlying feeling of where the distinction is going on, it's a great opportunity to make a move. Become acquainted with Your Colleagues It's entirely ordinary to feel somewhat like a pariah at a new position, socially and socially, for the initial scarcely any months. It's dependent upon you to put yourself out there and attempt to get acclimatized in the workplace. There's a spot for everybody contact bunches inside the work environment (ladies' gathering, biking gathering, and so forth.) to discover other social associations and gatherings that may be all the more satisfying, Hamill says. This exertion will assist you with feeling somewhat more associated and remembered for the workplace. In addition, shaping those bonds will build your solace level with the individuals you work with-which implies you'll be somewhat more confident when it comes time to shout out about business related issues as well. Becoming acquainted with your partners will assist you with increasing a superior undertanding of some social components you may feel uncomfortable with. They have more history with the organization and more institutional information than you do, which makes them an incredible asset to assist you with making sense of why things are how they are. Similarly as with anything, you should attempt your best to comprehend and adjust where you can before charging forward to request change or leaving. In the case of nothing else, you'll feel increasingly sure about your choice. Converse with Your Boss You gave it some time, put yourself out there, framed a few bonds, had edifying discussions with the individuals you work with, and confirmed this truly isn't a side effect of new position nerves. Maybe now you see progressively about the way of life, however you're still not feeling positive about your capacity to adjust and really function admirably in it. Or on the other hand, perhaps things are considerably progressively genuine and you essentially can't help contradicting something. For instance, your associates are pleased with the way that they're a group of compulsive workers and you're reluctant to work unlimited hours. You realize you shouldn't set out directly toward the entryway, however what else would you be able to do? In either situation, it's a great opportunity to converse with your manager about how you're feeling. A decent method to begin the discussion is to approach your administrator for input on how you're doing as such far, says Li. A progressively prepared administrator may even detect that you're not completely agreeable. On the off chance that your administrator doesn't get on your questions, be real to life (yet additionally deferential!) and detail the things you've been battling with. Clarify what you're feeling, why you're feeling that way, and any thoughts you have for how things could improve. Li additionally makes reference to that you ought to be set up to give whatever number models as would be prudent, so your supervisor can assist you with pinpointing the issue and (ideally) pick an answer. Hamill prompts that this discussion is likewise a decent time to pose a few inquiries, for example, What else would it be a good idea for me to get it? Are there different things I could be doing? By utilizing prompts like these, you show this is certainly not an individual assault on that organization's way of life, while likewise getting included clearness into a portion of the social viewpoints that you probably won't be utilized to or that you don't concur with. Workers should set aside the effort to investigate the 'why' behind a portion of the standards they are encountering, Hamill includes. Possibly an explanation interfaces with the mission that probably won't be sure about the surface. 3. Give it Some Time, Then Decide Whether to Stay or Go In a perfect world, you'll end that conversation with your supervisor with some following stages that both of you can take to improve the circumstance. What next? All things considered, give it a tad of time half a month at any rate. You can't change your working style for the time being, and culture isn't something that shifts quickly. Also, since the way of life includes all workers, there's extremely just such a large amount of it you can hope to modify. On the off chance that you begin to see some positive changes, that is incredible news. I'm willing to wager you'll keep on feeling progressively certain about your job and built up inside your organization as time pushes ahead. Be that as it may, if not? Indeed, as intense all things considered to state, it may be the ideal opportunity for you to begin your next quest for new employment (while you despite everything have a check!) to discover a culture that is increasingly fit to your wants and working style. I realize what you're thinking now: I haven't been here long enough! Won't this sever a tie and stain my notoriety for the entirety of endlessness? Your interests are substantial. In any case, advise yourself that you have the right to work in a culture that is helpful for your prosperity and bliss, and when the opportunity arrives, approach your supervisor again to clarify that you believe it's best that you proceed onward. Speak the truth about your purpose behind leaving and attempt to give criticism that will enable the organization to improve, Hamill says. Since you had recently moved toward your chief with your interests about your social arrangement, your flight most likely won't wallop them as much as you might suspect it will. Obviously, no manager is ever glad to see a worker go-however you can trust that they'll perceive and value your straightforwardness and mindfulness and wish you well. 4. Presently, Make Sure This Doesn't Happen Again Expecting to leave an organization once in light of the fact that you weren't a culture fit is reasonable. Be that as it may, you don't need this to occur again and again. To stay away from this equivalent dilemma later on, ensure that you're posing the correct inquiries in prospective employee meet-ups with forthcoming managers. Once more, it's trying to get a handle on the full degree of an organization culture in only a short meeting. Along these lines, Li says, the absolute best thing you can do is to get some information about the things you care about, regardless of whether it's chipping in, adaptability, or joint effort. In the event that you don't care for the appropriate response, it's conceivable not the best fit. Having questions about whether you're a reasonable match with your new organization's way of life is sufficient to move alarm and a sentiment of absolute weakness. In any case, have confidence, there are steps you can take to improve your circumstance or, if important, proceed onward expertly and deferentially. I solidly accept that you will be best in a domain where you can act naturally, Li closes. On the off chance that you can't be certified and valid, it tends to be depleting to attempt to acclimatize to a domain you don't work with, and it eventually keeps you from accomplishing your best work.

Why It Pays to Make the Career Change You Seek

Why It Pays to Make the Career Change You Seek With the Easter occasion, I chose to take a break and investigate Oxford, London and Amsterdam. (You can follow the features of my movements on Facebook and Twitter.) On the plane ride over the lake, I got a duplicate of USA Today. Amidst NCAA Basketball March Madness (of which I am a fan), I was promptly drenched in an article about Brad Stevens lead trainer of the Cinderella group Butler. Head servant, a mid-significant school situated close to Indianapolis where the title game (versus Duke) will be played today was not anticipated to go this far. Actually, many have compared them to the anecdotal group in the film Hoosiers. In any case, in finding out about their mentor and his mid-profession change, Im not astonished this group has shown so much fortitude and had so much achievement. Heres his storyCoach Stevens played school b-ball however picked a vocation in Marketing and was on the road to success with pharmaceutical goliath Eli Lilly. Jobs in the energy industry

Jobs in the energy industry by Michael Cheary Lost your spark? If you want to work in one of the UK’s fastest growing industries, a job in the energy sector could be the perfect career move for you. However, with such a diverse range of roles out there, knowing where to start can often be easier said than done. Not sure what your options are? Here are some roles you could consider, and some of our top tips to help you get to there:Energy AssessorWhat they do:  Whenever a building is built, a report is required detailing how energy efficient the structure is. This report is called an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), and whether it’s for a commercial or domestic property, it’s also an essential part of the buying, selling and letting process. It’s an Energy Assessor’s job to compile this report, and make any recommendations on where energy savings or improvements to efficiency can be made. What you need:  Aside from excellent analytical skills and a methodical approach to your work, a detailed understanding of energy efficiency and surveying is absolutely essential. A degree is not necessary, but you will need to demonstrate this knowledge by holding a Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment. What you can earn:  Somewhere around £24,000 as a basic salary, although entry-level positions may be slightly lower.Perfect for:  People who feel like they are forever turning off the lights. Our advice:  Although you will need to have a Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment to pursue this as a career, no formal requirements are necessary in order to gain this qualification. In fact, there are a number of different places out there to help you study and gain your certification independently.  View all Energy Assessor jobsGas EngineerWhat they do: Install, repair and maintain gas appliances. Gas Engineers can either specialise in installation or service, whether it’s for individual use to help with heating in the home, or maintaining systems in a large office building or even on industrial estates, there’s no job too large (or small) for a Gas Engineer. What you need: To be good with your hands is a no-brainer. Gas Engineering is a skilled trade, meaning that exceptional technical and problem solving skills are similarly essential. A degree is not necessary. What you can earn: Starting salary will be around £14,000, although this will raise to around £30,000 once fully qualified and experienced.Perfect for: People who are overly attached to their radiatorsOur advice: Apprenticeships are readily available in this field, with a whole host of the UK’s top gas providers on a continuous recruitment drive for these positions. But be warned: there will be a maths test as part of the process, so make sure you’re suitably prepared. It’s also worth noting that the job is quite physically demanding and those who struggle to work in small spaces or at heights may suffer. How to become a Gas Engineer  View all Gas Engineer jobs GeophysicistWhat they do: Study the internal structure and composition of the Earth. This could be through electrical surveying, studying gravitational pull or magnetic fields, and even using seismology. Geophysicists are absolutely vital in the energy industry, helping to appraise and measure feasibility for new areas and use their skills to find viable oil and gas reserves. What you need: First and foremost, you’ll need to be passionate about science. Excellent research skills and attention to detail are also incredibly important in this field, as your findings will directly influence some big business decisions. If you’re looking to work in an office every day, this definitely isn’t the job for you. Potential workplaces could include some pretty remote locations, ranging from offshore oil rigs and ships through to deserts and tundra. What you can earn: Starting salary will typical range from £25,000 to £30,000, but can reach around £75,000 for experts in the field.Perfect for: People who rock (or simila r terrible joke about geology). Our advice: Experience is absolutely essential for anyone looking to move into this field. Internships with government organisations or geophysical consulting companies are great ways of building your skills as a Geophysicist. If you’re currently still studying geology or physics at university, speak to department members and professors to see if they can help with work experience positions.View all Geophysicist jobsRenewable EnergyWhat they do:  Work with energy mediums that can be naturally replenished. Examples include working within solar energy (installing solar panels, for example), wind power (e.g. helping to maintain offshore wind farms), or working with hydroelectricity (e.g. as a Hydrologist or Hydro Engineer). Other sources include, but are not limited to, rain, tidal flow, biomass and geothermal energy. What you need:  A passion for renewable energy and developing environmentally friendly energy sources. Other attributes include excellent problem solving and mathematical skills, and a practical approach to your work. You will also generally need at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. What you can earn:  This will be entirely dependent on your position and the medium you want to work with. Potential salaries can be anywhere between £20,000 as an entry-level engineer, through to six-figure salaries for Directors or Project Leads.Perfect for:  People who are eco-friendly.Our advice:  Renewable energy is a rapidly growing industry. However, although the focus is often on engineering, a number of other positions in the discipline exist for those who want to contribute towards the cause. Law, accountancy, tax, project management and even marketing and PR positions are all available within the industry, and could be a great way to find the right renewable energy career that fits your skill set.View Renewable Energy jobs  Upstream/Downstream Oil and Gas EngineersWhat they do: Work within the production process of the oil and gas industry. Upstream Engineers locate and extract underground or underwater oil reserves. Downstream Engineers process the materials found within the upstream process, and refine them into a finished product (such as petrol or gasoline) which is then distributed directly to their customers. What you need: Aside from the technical capabilities needed to do the job, drive and enthusiasm are essential in this industry. As with Geophysicists, this position may involve a lot of relocation, so an openness to new working environments and the ability to pick new things up quickly and efficiently can also be key. A degree in a science or engineering discipline will be a pre-requisite.What you can earn: This will depend on your location and experience level. As a general guideline, initial salary may start at around the £20,000 mark, but more senior engineers could reach a figure closer to £50,000. Management positions may be even more lucrative.Perfect for: People who look great in overalls. Our advice: Aside from more formal qualifications, such as a degree or master’s degree (not essential for all employers, but will provide more opportunities), a good level of physical fitness is also required of most candidates. Engineering in this industry can be incredibly physically demanding, so don’t be tempted to place too much precedence on mental attributes when it comes to your applications.View all Upstream/Downstream jobs Other jobs in energy to consider: Energy Conservation Officer, Energy Manager, Environmental Consultant, Mudlogger, Offshore Installation Manager, Solar Panel Person (definitely a thing).Top tipsHere are some of our top tips for finding a job in the energy  industry:Be focused Where do you want your career to take you? Five European Cities That You Must Visit In 2017 Edinburgh The capital of Scotland is one of the most picturesque cities in the whole of the UK. Overlooked by the historic fortress of Edinburgh Castle, the city is a combination of towering old architecture combined with elegant Georgian housing â€" and of course, a great modern shopping area. Edinburgh is worth a visit all year round but gets particularly exciting in the summer, when the Edinburgh Festival descends on the city, the biggest arts festival in the world which fills the streets with actors, artists, comedians and musicians at the Fringe Festival. Just be aware that the city is very expensive during August â€" but absolutely worth it. Interview with the #1 Branding Expert on the Planet Rob Frankel - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Interview with the #1 Branding Expert on the Planet Rob Frankel - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Today, I interviewed Rob Frankel. Rob has managed to seize spot #1 in Google for branding expert and his blog is #3, which is extraordinary. Im on page 2 and hope one day to be as successful as Rob. You might have seen him on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams or on FOX with Neil Cavuto. Hes been called the best branding expert on the planet, by Fortune 1000 companies and media like CNN, CBS News, FOX News, NBC Nightly News, ABC News, CNBC, the Wall Street Journal, London Financial Times, Los Angeles Times, Bloomberg News Media , the Washington Post, INC magazine and more. He also commentates on branding issues in the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, the New York Times and CBS Marketwatch Radio. Rob is also a fellow blogger. He is quick and to-the-point with his answers, which allows you to remember his message. 1) Rob, how do you define the term brand? Branding is not about getting your prospects to choose you over your competition; its about getting your prospects to see you as the only solution to their problem. As long as youre perceived as the only solution to their problem, your brand is good to go, no matter what youre branding. 2) What is the difference between building an online brand versus an offline one? None. People are people. A strong brand functions in any medium and affects people in those media the same way. Why do we need both in the new millennium? Because thats where people are. Not everyone is in the same place at the same time. 3) How did you become known as the best branding expert on the planet? Originally, thats how Jaclyn Easton described me in her book, StrikingitRich.com. It stuck and then clients began evangelizing me that way. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkzXSuT_CaE] Does that mean the media views you as the top spokesperson or that is what you wanted to be in the first place (maybe both)? Both. Its nice to be known that way. 4) What was your brand strategy with the various web properties you have, including robfrankel.blogspot.com, frankel-anderson.com, frankelbiz.com and revengeofbrandx.com? Those are only a few of the web properties. We also have i-legions.com and peermailing.com. Each one truly is the only solution to clients problems. Each has its own brand strategy and all are complimentary to one another. But everything begins with a strong brand strategy, which is why the portal to everything in my practice is RobFrankel.com. Thats where the branding lives. Everything else provides strong, revenue-producing, measurable results from the executions of those brand strategies. 5) Over the course of your career, how much weight have you seen placed on branding, as opposites to other marketing topics? Well, theres been a lot tons of weight placed on what people mistakenly think is branding, but very little on real, tangible, accountable branding strategy. The vast majority of branding people are actually warm-over designers, public relations people or old ad agency types. These are executional practices, not strategic. This is why I wrote The Revenge of Brand X, by the way. To point out the differences and set the expectations of what real branding should deliver. 6) Out of the 3,000+ social networks plaguing this earth, what are your top 5 favorite brands? 1) FEDEX 2) Harley-Davidson 3) Sears DieHard 4) P.F. Flyers 5) Apple
